Materials:
pencil, eraser, paper, drawing board, zoom app, and a device to connect to zoom (preferably a laptop or desktop computer).

Course Description:
Alex Canelos will be holding a series of zoom figure drawing lessons, using a traditional approach to figure drawing. It offers the student a secure foundation of knowledge for developing one’s own artistic endeavors. Students work at their own pace, and new information is given only as they are able to apply it.

The four sessions will cover figure drawing from four different aspects:

1.) Anatomical: Studies of the skeleton, muscular system and movements of the human figure.

2.) Sculptural: Studies of how three-dimensional volumes of the figure can be represented on a two-dimensional surface of the paper.

3.) Retinal: Studies of how to observe and represent the shape relationships that we perceive optically.

4.) Rhythmical: Studies in conveying movement in ones drawings.

For these online sessions, one of the main figure references that I’ll be using is the Scott Eatons’ Bodies in Motion library. I have an annual subscription to this reference library, and will be sending subscribed students images that are relevant to the particular exercise for a given session.
