Here’s a selection of scribble drawings that I’m working on. These sketches are done from memory. The compositions are completely unplanned, and grow out of a process of “choreographed scribbles”. I keep scribbling until I can identify the potential figures, landscape elements, and other objects.

These works are influenced by sources as diverse as Chinese landscape paintings, Renaissance compositions, and comics. The narratives between the human figures (or the figures and the environments) are also unplanned and, often, deliberately unclear. I’m left wondering: “What exactly is taking place here?”

As I continue to make more of these sketches I’ll be looking for qualities that might lend themselves to being developed into paintings. You can see more of these drawings in the shop page.
